SECTION III -- PHYSICAL/CHEMICAL CHARACTERISTICS
BOILING RANGE: 280F
VAPOR DENSITY: Heavier Than Air
SPECIFIC GRAVITY (H2O = 1): 1.02
SOLUBILITY IN WATER: Not Soluble
EVAPORATION RATE: Slower than Ether
APPEARANCE AND ODOR: Clear liquid with solvent odor.
COATING V.O.C.: 2.21 lb/gl
SECTION IV -- FIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARD DATA
UNUSUAL FIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARDS:
Flammable liquid. Vapors form an explosive mixture in air between the upper and
lower explosive limits which can be ignited by sources such as pilot lights,
open flames, electrical motors and switches. Closed containers may explode when
exposed to extreme heat. Vapors may build up and travel along the ground to an
ignition source which may result in a flash back.
SECTION V -- REACTIVITY DATA
STABILITY: Stable. Unstable at elevated temperatures. If fire occurs, solvents
may produce excessive pressure. Sealed drums or containers may rupture and ignite.
CONDITIONS TO AVOID (STABILITY): High temperatures, poor ventilation, corrosive atmospheres, and excessive aging.
INCOMPATIBILITY (MATERIALS TO AVOID): Oxidizers and Phosphorus containing materials.
HAZARDOUS DECOMPOSITION OR BYPRODUCTS: Carbon Monoxide and Asphyxiants
HAZARDOUS POLYMERIZATION: Will not occur by itself
SECTION VI -- HEALTH HAZARD DATA
INHALATION HEALTH RISKS AND SYMPTOMS OF EXPOSURE:
Exposure to solvents may cause respiratory tract irritation. Signs and symptoms
of exposure are: headache, dizziness, uncoordination, nausea, narcosis, fatigue,
loss of appetite, dryness of throat, and a feeling of tightness in the chest.
SKIN AND EYE CONTACT HEALTH RISKS AND SYMPTOMS OF EXPOSURE
may cause severe irritation (pain, tearing, redness and swelling of the eyes) and
transient (temporary) corneal injury. Prolonged vapor contact may cause conjunctivitis.
SKIN CONTACT:
may cause skin irritation; drying, cracking, defatting, or flaking of skin.
Prolonged contact may cause redness and swelling of skin which may lead to dermatitis.
SKIN ABSORPTION HEALTH RISKS AND SYMPTOMS OF EXPOSURE
May remove natural oils and fats from skin with prolonged or repeated contact, and may
cause effects similar to those effects identified under inhalation symptoms.
INGESTION HEALTH RISKS AND SYMPTOMS OF EXPOSURE
Moderately toxic. Can result in irritation in the digestive tract. Symptoms can
include sore throat, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. If aspirated,
may cause lung damage or even death due to chemical pneumonia.
HEALTH HAZARDS (ACUTE AND CHRONIC):
ACUTE: may cause eye, skin, and respiratory irritation.
CHRONIC: repeated excessive exposure may cause chronic, adverse systemic effects.
MEDICAL CONDITIONS GENERALLY AGGRAVATED BY EXPOSURE:
Lung, liver, or kidney disorders may be aggravated by exposure.
EMERGENCY AND FIRST AID PROCEDURES:
INHALATION EXPOSURE:
Remove to fresh air. If not breathing, give artificial respiration and seek medical assistance.
EYE CONTACT:
Flush with water for at lease 15 minutes. Seek medical assistance.
SKIN CONTACT:
Wash thoroughly with soap and water. Remove any contaminated clothing. If redness or
swelling develops, seek medical assistance.
INGESTION
Do not induce vomiting. Do not give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.
Obtain emergency medical assistance immediately.
SECTION VII -- PRECAUTIONS FOR SAFE HANDLING AND USE
STEPS TO BE TAKEN IN CASE MATERIAL IS RELEASED OR SPILLED
Eliminate all ignition sources, provide good ventilation, contain spill, and soak up in
absorbent material. Prevent runoff from entering drains, sewers, or streams. Use spark
resistant utensils in clean up.
WASTE DISPOSAL METHOD:
Follow federal, state, and local regulations. Do not dump material into drains,
sewers, streams, or the ground. Incineration may be an option.
PRECAUTIONS TO BE TAKEN IN HANDLING AND STORING:
Keep away from heat, sparks, and flame. Keep containers closed when not in use.
Use non-sparking utensils when handling this material. Store in well ventilated
area. Do not store with incompatible materials.
OTHER PRECAUTIONS:
This material reacts with water so containers must be tightly closed when not in
use. Also this material reacts with Isocyanates.
SECTION VIII -- CONTROL MEASURES
OTHER PROTECTIVE CLOTHING OR EQUIPMENT:
RESPIRATORY PROTECTION
An appropriate NIOSH-approved respirator for organic vapor is recommended.
If concentration in air is high, wear a self-contained breathing apparatus.
VENTILATION
Use only with adequate ventilation. Ventilate as needed to comply with exposure limit.
Local exhaust ventilation recommended.
PROTECTIVE GLOVES
Use impervious chemical resistant gloves.
EYE PROTECTION
Chemical safety glasses, goggles, and faceshields for eye protection are recommended.
OTHER PROTECTIVE CLOTHING OR EQUIPMENT
Use impermeable aprons and protective clothing whenever possible to prevent skin
contact. Eye washes and safety showers should also be provided for use.
WORK/HYGIENIC PRACTICES:
Minimize eye contact, skin contact, and inhalation of vapor whenever possible.
Eye washes and safety showers in the workplace are recommended. Do not eat,
drink, or smoke in the work area.
